Kurdistan Regional Government delegation, led by Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, met with Iranian leaders during their official visit to Tehran.
At the start of his visit, Prime Minister Barzani met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, and thanked him for Iran’s support to the people of the Kurdistan Region during difficult times. He stressed that the Kurdistan Region has always been, and will remain, a stability factor in the broader region.
Highlighting the historical relations between the people of Kurdistan Region and Iran, Mr. Rouhani expressed his government’s desire to further develop trade and economic ties between the two sides.
Prime Minister Barzani also met with the Speaker of Iranian Parliament, Ali Larijani, and the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani.
Iranian officials voiced their support to resolving the disputes between the Kurdistan Region and Iraqi authorities through dialogue and on the basis of Iraqi Consititution.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region Qubad Talabani, Chief of Staff to the Kurdistan Region Presidency Fuad Hussien, and Spokesperson of the Kurdistan Regional Government Safeen Dizayee, accompanied Prime Minister Barzani in his visit to Iran.
