President Barzani meets with top leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran

President Nechirvan Barzani met with Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Tehran on May 6. President Barzani also met with other high officials of the Islamic Republic.

During their meeting, attended by the Kurdistan Region Vice Presidents, the Interior Minister, and a delegation from the Kurdistan Region Presidency, both sides emphasized the significance of strengthening the ties between Iran, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region, based on the principles of good neighborliness, shared interests, and advancing trade and economic relations. Furthermore, they expressed appreciation for the longstanding relationship and historic ties between the Islamic Republic and the Kurdistan Region.

President Raisi conveyed the appreciation of the Islamic Republic towards the Kurdistan Region for its assistance to Iranian pilgrims travelling to the holy shrines in southern Iraq. In return, the President of the Kurdistan Region expressed gratitude to Iran for their support and assistance to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Both parties also highlighted the importance of ongoing coordination and cooperation among Iran, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region to maintain peace and stability in the region.

Meeting with Grand Ayatollah Khamenei

President Nechirvan Barzani also met with Iran’s Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei in Tehran.

During their discussion, President Barzani expressed his pleasure to meet with Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei and underscored the Kurdistan Region’s aspiration to strengthen relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran across various sectors. Additionally, the President expressed appreciation towards Iran for its support extended to both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Both parties emphasized the significance of the relationship between the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and agreed on the importance of upholding peace and stability, in addition to enhancing collaboration between the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region.

Their meeting also addressed the regional situation and other issues of mutual interest.

Meeting with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

President Nechirvan Barzani and his accompanying delegation held a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Tehran. The focus of their talks was on the ties between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The significance of bolstering bilateral relations was emphasized by the President and Iran’s Foreign Minister. Their conversation also revolved around exploring avenues to improve trade and economic cooperation, as well as fostering sector-specific initiatives by Iran in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Discussions also addressed the political and overall situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the most recent developments and the importance of regional stability.

Meeting with Secretary Ali Akbar Ahmadian

In his series of meetings in Tehran, President Nechirvan Barzani and his accompanying delegation met with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Akbar Ahmadian.

Their discussion focused on the security situation and coordination between the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region with aim of upholding peace and stability. The meeting also addressed the security threats in the region and their potential impacts and repercussions.

The two sides stressed the need for collaboration between their respective authorities to promote peace and stability. The significance of averting the escalation of tensions and preventing any additional turmoil in the region was emphasized by both parties.

During the meeting, Rear Admiral Ahmadian reiterated his country’s support for the Kurdistan Region, while President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized that the Kurdistan Region will consistently contribute to regional peace and stability, emphasizing that the Kurdistan Region does not pose a threat to any entity in the region.

Meeting with Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf

During President Nechirvan Barzani’s second day of his official visit to Tehran, he and his delegation had a productive meeting with Mr. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Both parties emphasized the significance of maintaining strong relations between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, based on the principles of good neighborliness and shared interests. They explored various opportunities and strategies to enhance cooperation and strengthen ties across all sectors.

It was mutually agreed that the Islamic Republic of Iran holds immense potential for collaboration with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in areas such as trade, economy, investment, agriculture, tourism, culture, education, and many others. To fully capitalize on these opportunities, it is crucial for the relevant stakeholders from both sides to continue working together.

Furthermore, the meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the overall situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the ongoing relations between Erbil and Baghdad.

Meeting with General Hossein Salami

During his official visit to Tehran, President Nechirvan Barzani held a meeting with the Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, General Hossein Salami, in Tehran.

Their discussions mainly focused on Iran’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, with a particular focus on the security issues. Both parties emphasized the significance of enhancing cooperation and coordination between the relevant entities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region to uphold security and stability along the borders and effectively address security challenges.

They also exchanged views on the implications of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East on regional stability. It was mutually agreed that collective efforts are essential to preserve stability and prevent any further escalation of tensions.

Additionally, the meeting touched upon security and military collaboration between Erbil and Baghdad, joint efforts on combating terrorism, as well as other matters of mutual concern.

Meeting with Iraqi Minister of Commerce Atheer Daoud Al-Ghurairi

President Nechirvan Barzani held a meeting with Atheer Daoud Al-Ghurairi, the Minister of Commerce of the Federal Republic of Iraq, who was also visiting Tehran. The discussions revolved around the relations between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the trade and commerce between them.

Both parties shared their perspectives on Iran’s trade and economic activities with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and explored ways to enhance trade opportunities and overcome barriers. They emphasized the significance of expanding commerce between the two countries, which would contribute positively to their economic growth.
