Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani and his accompanying delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government, on Monday, 11 May, met Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, in Budapest to discuss bilateral ties.
President Barzani thanked the Hungarian government for its support to the Kurdistan Region Peshmerga Forces and welcomed a recent decision by the Hungarian parliament to authorize the deployment of a military contingent to train the Peshmerga Forces.
The President extended an invitation to Prime Minister Orbán to visit Kurdistan. The two sides also discussed enhancing bilateral ties, including cooperation in the energy sector.
Prime Minister Orbán expressed his country’s strong support for the people of Kurdistan and its legitimate rights, particularly in the fight against terrorism.
During his official visit to Budapest, President Barzani and his accompanying delegation also held meetings with the Hungarian President János Áder, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and Defense Minister Csaba Hende.
