On 25 April, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Nechirvan Barzani attended a ceremony held in Turkey to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Çanakkale. At the official invitation by the Republic of Turkey, Prime Minister Barzani, representing the Kurdistan Regional President Masoud Barzani, and his accompanying delegation commemorated the battle and its numerous casualties alongside with delegations from sixty countries.
The ceremony was held in the presence of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and a number of Turkish high-ranking officials and figures.
The battle had taken place in the Çanakkale peninsula during World War I on 25 April 1915. It was fought between the Ottoman Empire and Allied forces and had caused more than 100,000 casualties.
The message of the ceremony was to express commitment to the security and stability of the region, to world peace, coexistence, and the prevention of the reoccurrence of disastrous wars as those experienced in the first half of the 20th century.
