Prime Minister Barzani inaugurated Slevana Wheat Factory in Zakho

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani inaugurated the Slevana wheat factory in Zakho on September 21.

During his speech at the ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasized that the silo is part of the government’s initiative to market the wheat products of Kurdistan’s farmers. Built in partnership with the private sector and in line with international standards, the facility aims to enhance the region’s agricultural capabilities.

The Prime Minister expressed his hope that this factory will better serve local farmers and announced plans to expand the project by establishing additional facilities for wheat product processing.

“We have focused on the agricultural sector and the food industry,” said Prime Minister Barzani. “Over the past year, in various regions of Kurdistan, we—along with the private sector—have completed several silos and agricultural projects.”

“We are also working to secure both domestic and foreign markets for our farmers’ products. Today, the produce of Kurdistan’s farmers reaches markets in Arab and European countries.”

Agriculture is a key pillar of the government’s economic diversification strategy, and the development of the agricultural sector and food industry has already created thousands of job opportunities for young people. “Our goal is to build a productive society, not just a consumer one. We will continue to support local products so that these factories and projects can grow and compete with foreign imports.”
