Prime Minister Masrour Barzani alongside Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, Ahmad Hassen al-Hammadi, Secretary-General of Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Sultan bin Mubarak Al-Kubaisi, Qatar’s Ambassador to Iraq, jointly presided over the opening ceremony of the General Consulate of the State of Qatar in Erbil on May 26.
Prime Minister Barzani delivered a speech, summarized in the following excerpt:
“I hope this opening marks the beginning of stronger bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and Qatar.
“We convey our regards to His Highness Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, and we hope to deepen our bilateral relations across sectors, grounded in shared interests. The opening of the Qatari General Consulate will significantly bolster our relations, particularly in trade, agriculture, culture, and higher education.
“Qatar has valuable experience in investment, construction, energy, and industry. The Kurdistan Region can utilize the Qatari experience. We invite Qatari investors to visit the Kurdistan Region and invest in its growing sectors, and the KRG is ready to provide all facilitations.
“The Kurdistan Region stands as a beacon of stability and tranquility in the region. Its nature and geography present great opportunities for investment across multiple sectors, including agriculture, tourism, and industry. We encourage and support diversified investment, which is the KRG’s main goal for a stronger economy.”
