Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian and his accompanying delegation from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the French Embassy in Baghdad, and the French Consulate-General in Erbil.
In the meeting, which was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian stressed his support as well as that of President Emmanuel Macron for the talks between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi Federal Government on outstanding issues on the basis of the Iraqi Constitution.
He also expressed hope the talks would lead to positive results.
Prime Minister Barzani expressed his thanks to President Macron, who was the first to receive a high-ranking delegation from the Kurdistan Region after the tensions of last October, breaking the political and diplomatic siege imposed on the Kurdistan Region.
He said the people of the Kurdistan Region would not forget the support and assistance of France.
The current situation of the Region, political process in Iraq, upcoming elections in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the post-ISIS era, and the Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq were also discussed.
