President Nechirvan Barzani received the incoming German Ambassador to Iraq, Ms. Christiane Hohmann, and her delegation which included diplomats and military officials, on October 9.
President Nechirvan Barzani congratulated Ambassador Hohmann on assuming the office and wished her success. They discussed further expanding areas of cooperation and relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Both emphasized the importance of improving security in Iraq, stressing that ISIS is still a real threat to security and stability and must continue to be fought. The President thanked Germany for their military and humanitarian support to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
The two also discussed Iraq’s current political situation and agreed on the importance of implementing the federal system in the country. President Nechirvan Barzani emphasized that the federal system must be firmly rooted and properly implemented to achieve lasting stability in Iraq.
Their conversation also covered expanding German commerce with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, efforts to diversify Iraq’s sources of income, and the latest developments in the wider region.
Ambassador Hohmann also met with Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on the same day.
