Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Alina Romanowski, the US Ambassador to Iraq, on July 5th. Both sides discussed the development of ties between the Kurdistan Region and the US, as well as the resolution of outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad.
Prime Minister Barzani reiterated that the Kurdistan Region has always been willing to resolve these issues with Baghdad on the basis of the Iraqi Constitution. The Prime Minister also noted, however, that the Kurdistan Region will not concede its constitutional rights under any circumstances. He further remarked that the Region’s development is of benefit to Iraq as a whole and that the Federal Government should aid all regions of the country indiscriminately.
The US Ambassador said that the Kurdistan Region is an important ally of the US, and stressed the importance of resolving the issues between Erbil and Baghdad on the basis of the Iraqi Constitution.
