The Kurdistan Region has stepped up diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation between in Syria, warning that continued fighting risks regional instability and a resurgence of ISIS.
President Nechirvan Barzani has been in continuous contact with international partners, stressing that military solutions will only deepen the crisis and that dialogue is the only viable path forward.
In Erbil, President Nechirvan Barzani met SDF commander Mazloum Abdi and ENKS representatives to discuss de-escalation and political solutions, while also receiving U.S. Syria envoy Tom Barrack. France’s Emmanuel Macron likewise voiced support in a phone call, backing mediation efforts and the protection of civilians.
The Kurdistan Region welcomed a decree by Syria’s interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa recognizing Kurdish rights, while underlining that these guarantees must be anchored in Syria’s future constitution. Parallel talks were also held by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani with U.S. representatives.
A meeting was held with Serok Masoud Barzani in Erbil, during which the importance of dialogue and international engagement in Syria was emphasized.
